By Markos Papadatos     May 4, 2013 in Entertainment
Port Washington - On May 3, singer-songwriter Chris Mann (best-known from the second season of the reality singing competition “The Voice”) performed at the Landmark on Main Street in Port Washington, New York.
“We are really excited to have Chris Mann here tonight,” said Sharon Maier-Kennelly, the executive director of the venue, in her opening remarks.
An alum of “Team Christina Aguilera” from “The Voice,” Chris opened his set with “Unless You Mean It” and it was followed by his renditions of Coldplay’s “Viva La Vida” and Lady Antebellum’s “Need You Now.”
His stage was graced in candles and he was backed by a gifted pianist.
“Thank you,” Chris said. “I am going to sing a lot about love tonight.”
Chris also revealed that he used to be a bank teller and one of his former employers was Bank of America, which ironically enough was one of the event’s sponsors tonight.
He went on to sing “Falling,” a tune which he co-wrote, as well as the gorgeous ballad “On a Night Like This,” which was simultaneously soothing yet powerful.
Equally noteworthy was his version of the Simon and Garfunkel classic “The Sound Of Silence.”
“How are you guys doing?” he asked the Long Island crowd, prior to belting out “Ave Maria” and Andrea Bocelli’s “Because We Believe,” the latter of which was his audition song for “The Voice.”
His rendition of “Longer” was tender and he showcased his dynamic pipes on “All By Myself.”
Chris’ version of “Hallelujah” would have certainly made Leonard Cohen proud and the audience was treated to two original songs “A Beautiful Life” and “I Never Meant to Make You Cry,” which played on piano.
He performed a solo rendition of “The Blower’s Daughter” (which appears as a duet with Christina Aguilera on his album “Roads”), as well as the soaring title track.
His closing song was a rendition of Bruno Mars’ pop hit “Just The Way You Are” and he incorporated a medley of the Billy Joel classic “Just the Way You Are,” which was sheer brilliance.
Chis returned for an encore and he sang Frank Sinatra’s “My Way,” which earned him a standing ovation.
The Verdict
Overall, Chris Mann put on a stellar concert at the Landmark on Main Street. He possesses one of the finest tenor voices in contemporary music since Josh Groban and his raw talent can simply be summed up in one word: amazing. Chris was able to take all of these great songs, most of which were covers, and make them his own. His live show garners an A+ rating and it is definitely worth checking out whenever he is in town.
Chris Mann’s vocals are Grammy worthy and if the Grammy nominating committee members have any doubts, all they need to see is a highlight reel of tonight's spectacular performance at the Landmark on Main Street.
