Port Washington - On April 29, singer-songwriter Chris Mann and alum from the second season of “The Voice,” chatted via telephone with Digital Journal.
The classically trained musician spoke about his new music and his upcoming concert at the Landmark on Main Street, a venue that is situated in Port Washington, Long Island. “I am excited to perform there. That’s my favorite type of venue since I can feel really connected and close to the audience. I have spent a lot of time in Port Washington when I was living in New York. I love Port Washington since it’s such a sweet little town,” he said. “I haven’t been to Port Washington for a number of years, but it’s a really great city.”
Chris revealed that his show in Port Washington will feature songs from his “Roads” album, as well as tunes from his PBS special and new material. “It will consist of a mixture of songs and it’s a really dynamic show even though it’s intimate. It’ll have a lot of range and so far the audience has been enjoying it so it has been really exciting,” he acknowledged. “People like the variety of the show since I am singing songs by Coldplay, Lady Antebellum and the most requested song is ‘Ave Maria,’ which I am excited to be performing as well.”
Throughout his career in music, he has collaborated with such acclaimed female vocalists as Christina Aguilera (his coach while he was on “The Voice”), Katharine McPhee and country songstress Martina McBride. “Martina has an amazing voice and she is such a sweet person. I sang ‘Always On My Mind’ with her for the PBS special,” he stated. “I have been very lucky with the people that are supporting what I do.”
Chris will be performing with Katharine Jenkins on the upcoming PBS Memorial Day concert.
He listed Barbra Streisand, Celine Dion and Kanye West as his dream duet choices. “It would be cool to do something totally different and do a song with Kanye. I think people would like that,” he said.
Chris noted that his personal favorite song from “Roads” is “Unless You Mean It,” which is expected to be his new single. “I also love the title track and Frank Sinatra’s ‘My Way,’” he remarked.
For Chris Mann, success is defined as “the ability to make music and to connect with an audience.” “There are some songs throughout the night where I feel really connected to everybody and that is success,” he concluded.
