Saint Louis - A Missouri high school teacher is behind bars and facing charges of sexually abusing an underage male student earlier this month.
KTVI reports that David Marler, a teacher at Soldan International Studies High School in St. Louis, has been arrested and charged with 11 counts related to the alleged April 21 incident.
KSDK reports that Marler is charged with five counts of second-degree sodomy, five counts of sexual conduct with a student on school property and one count of first-degree child welfare endangerment. Marler's alleged victim is described as "under the age of 17."
CBS St. Louis reports that Marler allegedly engaged in oral and anal sex with the boy.
The indictment against Marler also alleges that he gave the student some sort of inhalant that made him dizzy and lightheaded.
St. Louis Public Schools released a statement acknowledging awareness of allegations of "professional misconduct by an employee." Marler was placed on leave pending the outcome of an investigation.
Marler is being held on a $250,000 cash-only bond.
Police fear that other students may have been victimized by Marler. They urge anyone with information relating to the teacher to contact the St. Louis Metropolitan Police child abuse hotline at 314-444-5385.
