Damascus - Syrian Prime Minister Wael al-Halqi survived an assassination attempt in Damascus this morning in which at least six people were killed by a bomb aimed at Wael al-Halki's convoy in the capital's Mezze district.
Haaretz and The Times of Israel report that Syrian Prime Minister Wael al-Halqi has survived an assassination attempt in the capital this morning. The initial reports are that at least six people were killed.
Syrian state TV is quoted as saying "The terrorist explosion in al-Mezze was an attempt to target the convoy of the prime minister. Doctor Wael al-Halqi is well and not hurt at all."
At this time no one has claimed responsibility for the attack although The Times of Israel state that "the Syrian government says Muslim extremists trying to overthrow President Bashar Assad are to blame for the attacks."
