Disney has announced that for the second year in a row it will open for one day and one night for 24 hours. The promotion is to kick off summer and also promote its soon-to-be-released "Monsters University!" film.
The Walt Disney Company has announced its plans to kick off "Disney's Monstrous Summer" on May 24, 2013, for one day and one night, calling it "A Monstrous 24-Hour "All-Nighter" in its blog.
The promotion was created based on the "Monsters, Inc." sequel that is due to be released in theatres on June 21, according to Zap2It.
Disney made the announcement on Thursday night at its parks when it transformed the familiar Spaceship Earth attraction in Epcot into a 180-foot-tall, fully animated Mike Wazowski (a main character in the movie played by Billy Crystal).
Last year, the company had a similar promotion at its Walt Disney World park in Orlando, Fla. to celebrate Leap Year. This year the promotion will expand to be at Disney parks on both the East and the West coasts.
During the day of promotion, the parks will be open at 6 a.m. on Fri., May 24 and keep the gates open until Sat., May 25, at 6 a.m. Visitors are invited to spend the 24 hours in the parks with a valid ticket.
There will reportedly be lots of "monster" foods/drinks, a monster-themed parade, "Monsters" character meet and greets, entertainment and merchandise. The Monorail transportation between the parks and the resorts has also been transformed into the "Monsterail".
Disney does warn that the promotion is subject to capacity restrictions. Last year, the park reportedly did reach capacity during its Leap Day promotion.
