Woolwich - A lengthy series of terrorist trials has been concluded with the ringleaders receiving heavy sentences at Woolwich Crown Court.
This long series of trials has now been concluded. Ashik Ali, Irfan Khalid and Irfan Naseer were convicted earlier this month; today they were sentenced. Naseer was given a life sentence with a tariff of 18 years. Khalid was sentenced to 18 years, and Ali to 15 years. Eight others received lesser sentences.
Yesterday, three others were sentenced at the Central Criminal Court. This unrelated trial saw white convert Salahuddin al Britaini (the former Richard Dart) sentenced to 6 years; Imran Mahmood was given nine years and nine months while Jahangir Alom received four years and six months.
Unlike Zahid Iqbal, Mohammed Sharfaraz Ahmed, Umar Arshad and Syed Farhan Hussain who were given heavy sentences on April 18 for basically talking too loudly and too bold, both these gangs had undertaken meaningful preparations for among other things, plotting attacks on Wootton Bassett, a town of great significance to the UK military.
Hopefully this will be the last we hear of this sort of thing in the UK for a long time, but don't count on it.
