Boston - Adidas has become one of the first corporate sponsors to address the bombings that took place during the Boston marathon Monday. The horrific attack left three people dead and 176 injured.
In tribute to the victims, their families and everyone affected by the heinous events which transpired Monday, and in honor of every man and woman who assisted the injured and helped catch those responsible for the bombings, Adidas has rolled out its "Boston Stands As One" t-shirt, Adage reports. The shirt is selling for $26.20, an homage to the 26.2 miles of the race, the IBTimes reports. and 100% of the profits will go to The One Fund, a charity that was introduced Wednesday by Boston Mayor Tom Menino and Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick.
USA Today is reporting that a few sizes have already sold out, but that Adidas is already working on getting more back in stock soon.
"The selflessness and compassion demonstrated by the city of Boston, the first responders, the Boston Athletic Association, and marathon volunteers in providing assistance to the injured have stuck with and inspired us," said Patrik Nillson, President of Adidas America, in a statement."We commend Boston-and those associated with the city and the marathon-for their reaction to this very challenging situation. We applaud them for standing together as one on Monday and in the days which have followed."
According to Women's Wear Daily, Nillson was among 100 Adidas staffers in Boston for the race Monday. This year, Adidas had over 8,500 BAA volunteers dressed for the marathon and over 3,500 members of the media and race officials wearing Adidas jackets. Throughout the week, runners and supporters have been photographed in Adidas jackets. The company has sold some 2013 apparel and footwear to fans near the John Hancock Sports & Fitness Expo as a sign of solidarity.
Adidas has extremely close ties to Boston and has been a sponsor of the Boston marathon for 25 years, the IBTimes reports.
