article imageScouts seek talent at eating-disorder clinic

Officials at one of the world's largest eating-disorder treatment center have complained that modeling agencies have been coming around looking for new talent among their patients.
According to Yahoo, Dr. Anna-Maria af Sandeberg, chief doctor at Sweden's Stockholm Center for Eating Disorders, said that she thinks that it is repugnant. She said that there have been people who have tried to pick up girls at the clinic because they know that the girls are thin.
According to NY Daily News, Sandeberg said that the center has been dealing with the problem for more than a year now. She said that one time a scout approached a patient that was confined to a wheelchair because of how sick she was.
When girls are trying to get treatment for their eating-disorder, then it can send the wrong message when approached by modeling agencies, says Sandeberg.
According to Jezebel, in another incident, an agent with one of the largest modeling agencies in Sweden approached a 14-year-old girl and left her with a business card.
The girl's mother contacted the agent and told them that her daughter suffered from a serious illness, and the agent claimed that they only approach healthy slim young people and that they would never urge someone to lose weight, says the mother.
