article imageReports: Men in Boston shooting have explosives, may be bombers

What began as the killing of a campus security officer at MIT in Boston may have even larger implications. Reports, some from the New York Times, say police battled with two suspects in the officer's killing, and that they had home-made explosives.
Early Friday morning the online Boston Globe began reporting the following headline: 'A Marathon Bombing Suspect in Custody.' The evening's drama began at about 10 p.m. ET when the officer was shot on the MIT campus in Cambridge near Boston. There was also a carjacking at that time and a police chase.
Further, though not relating this directly to the marathon bombings, the Times reported that explosives were thrown at police by the two suspects and that the two carried the explosives in backpacks. This battle took place at Watertown, near Boston.
It is uncertain if this battle was related to the killing of the officer on the MIT campus earlier. It was in Watertown that reports say the first suspect was taken into custody; he was on the ground and was told to strip and taken by 4 officers into a car. A report on CNN says he was then taken out of the car and, still, it appears, naked, questioned by FBI; the FBI also took his photo.
It is uncertain if there is any connection between the shooting of the officer on the grounds of MIT and the events in Watertown. Despite the Boston Globe headline, it is also uncertain if any of the drama on this night is connected to Monday's bombing at the Boston marathon.
At about 2:50 a.m. ET reports said that a second suspect was taken into custody, again in Watertown, but that has since been said to be untrue. Some time after that the police issued a warning to citizens of Watertown to stay in and not to open their door to strangers. Police have also said they will be going door to door and only to open doors if they see a police officer in uniform. This is all unfolding in the middle of the night in the Boston area.
The latest news is a newly released police statement which says that the suspect taken into custody was injured in the chase and is now deceased. There was video of the naked man taken into custody and the most recent police statement calls into question who that man was. In the carjacking a driver, it's now reported, was taken hostage by the suspects, but it's not known what has happened to that person.
The police are now saying that the suspect they are looking for is Suspect Two in the marathon bombing, the young male in a white baseball cap. This is an ongoing story and Digital Journal will continue to update.
