article imageNBA: Lawrence Frank out as Detroit Pistons coach

By Layne Weiss     Apr 18, 2013 in Sports
Detroit - After 2 seasons, Lawrence Frank is officially out as head coach of the Detroit Pistons. The news was widely expected among league sources
It was reported Wednesday night that Frank said he would not return as coach unless the Pistons franchise was willing to guarantee him a 4th year team option.
A week before Frank's second season as the Piston's head coach ended, he informed the team's owner Tom Gores and General Manager Joe Dumars of his demands.
Frank has been adamant that it has been impossible for him to work as a coach during the Pistons rebuilding phase, and that returning for the 2013-2014 season would be unworkable with all the instabilities. Well, now, he won't have to worry.
Frank's firing has been expected for months. The Pistons lost 27 of 36 games in the second half of the season, ESPN reports. Frank led the team to a 29-53 record this season, 59-54 overall.
Whoever the Pistons choose as their next coach will be their fifth in seven years, Detroit Bad Boys reports.
Lawrence Frank isn't the only NBA head coach who won't be returning to his coaching post next season. Philadelphia 76ers coach Doug Collins has resigned, and the Cleveland Cavaliers have fired head coach Byron Scott.
