The population of Israel has reached eight million just as the country marks 65 years of both existence and independence.
The Central Bureau of Statistics has reported that the population increased by about 1.8% during the course of the past year. (UPI, April 14 2013)
75.3% of Israel's population is Jewish whilst Arabs make up some 20.7% of the country's overall population.
Since independence day last year there have been 163,000 births and 41,000 deaths in Israel along with an influx of 19,500 immigrants who have settled in the state and now call it home.
Upon its foundation in 1948 Israel's population was about 806,000. (The Jewish Chronicle, April 16 2013)
