Casablanca - With the participation of 15 area wineries, folk singers and dancers, local handicrafts and typical food stands, the town of Casablanca held on April 13 and 14 the traditional Harvest Festival, which pays tribute to the fascinating art of wine-making.
Renowned worldwide for its wines, the Casablanca Valley celebrated on the weekend the annual grape harvest with a big festival open to the entire community. Organized by the 15 wineries of the Casablanca Valley Vineyards Association, the event held in the town’s Main Square allowed residents and visitors to taste and appreciate the products that distinguish the Valley as a setting for the production of unique quality wines.

The festival began on Saturday, April 13 at 12:30 pm with the official opening which included the participation of municipal authorities. During the festivities, there were religious activities which included a Mass and blessing of the first must, folk dancing and singing, the presentation of the candidates for Harvest Queen, the traditional "Grape Stomping", sensory strains’ identification contests (wine tasting), participation of popular poets (minstrels) and, of course, tasting of local foods and wines from participating wineries.

The Mayor of the town of Casablanca Rodrigo Martinez, inaugurating the festival said: "The Harvest Festival presents the best of Casablanca. It is important when people make use of arts, food and wine to demonstrate to the region and the country all the good things we have."

The celebration was centered around Casablanca’s main square in picturesque surroundings that include the main parish, the colonial style building of the City Hall, and the statue of the town’s greatest son, Julio Montt Salamanca, second officer of his battalion, who at age 21 went to immortality in 1882 as one of the heroes and martyrs of the Chilean Army at the Battle of Concepcion in the War of the.Pacific.
