article imageMTV Movie Awards hand top prize to 'Marvel's The Avengers'

By Tim O'Brien     Apr 15, 2013 in Entertainment
By April, award shows for the previous year seem a bit late. For MTV it seems right as they handed out their awards tonight (April 14).
However, the "MTV Movie Awards" come in handy for another reason. That is the trailers for the year ahead. And that happened as the award show progressed. From "Hunger Games: Catching Fire" to "Man of Steel," they were there. As was the latest trailer for the next "Star Trek."
But, the top award went to "Marvel's The Avengers," which just so happens to be the biggest box office film of 2012.
But, it was also the time to hand out movie awards in some unique categories. Those are the ones that are what the MTV show is all about, like villain, kiss and fight.
Rebel Wilson hosted the latest installment, which is now in year 22. It makes one wonder how a music video network was ever handed such a night in the first place. Special awards were handed out and they included a first time award called Comedic Genius Award (Will Ferrell, Trailblazer (Emma Watson) and Generation Icon (Jamie Foxx).
The explanation MTV used for Ferrell's award, was this: "Throughout his long and illustrious career, Ferrell continues to keep things super fresh. He pushes boundaries with his creative characters and keeps us guessing with his witty one-liners. Best of all, he shows no signs of slowing down."
The Trailblazer Award has this explanation. "The award is given to an actor who, despite their age, has managed to inspire others with a diverse portfolio of work and a transcendent reputation in the public eye."
For Foxx, nabbing the Generation Award, they noted: "The distinction is given to an artist who has shown us a variety of impressive roles, a personal and professional flair and of course, an awesome level of talent."
