Ottawa - After months of campaigning, the Liberal Party of Canada has announced its new leader at an event at the Westin hotel in Ottawa.
In total, over 104,552 votes were cast during the week-long online voting period. With the majority of votes, Justin Trudeau has become the new leader of the Liberal Party of Canada.
Trudeau (41) was elected to the House of Commons in 2008 for the riding of Papineau and was re-elected in 2011.
The Liberal Campaign saw over 300,000 supporters signed up to vote. Over 40 percent registered to vote, and in total 103,741 votes were cast. The Liberal Party hopes the influx of support, updated voter information and social attention will assist with the upcoming 2015 election.
