article image'The Place Beyond The Pines' gets bad reviews

It has Ryan Gosling, so what could go wrong? A bad script, unfortunately, seems to be one of the things that cause bad word of mouth about this movie.
According to One Minute News (video above), Mackinley saw and reviewed this movie and has this to say for it: "What a long boring trip it's been."
"It's three movies in one, and they're all terminally dull", says Mackinley about this soap opera/teen coming of age movie/dirty cop thriller. "Wooden performances" is how Mackinley describes the acting.
Digital Journal has a more subtle way, involving the concept of "condencing," to say the movie is a long boring trip:
"This film is a trilogy rolled into one picture. Each of these stories could have been expanded to standalone, but are instead connected to create an overarching narrative of tragedy and discovery. Though told as they are together, they could have used some condensing."
Miami.com reports "...no amount of good acting or beautiful cinematography (shot by Sean Bobbitt) can rescue a movie that is this belabored and prolonged, only to illustrate a banal (and telegraphed) message about how the sins of the father are handed down to their sons."
"The Place Beyond the Pines is hackneyed and dull: Not a single moment rings true."
Some audience members on rottentomatoes.com seem to love it though. Here is one such opinion:
"'The Place Beyond The Pines' is one of the best films I have seen in years. Filled with symbolism and meaningful truths, this film accomplishes what almost every film nowadays, fails to do, which is making the audience believe that everything that is happening on screen, could, and does happen somewhere in the world."
Well, it has Ryan Gosling, half naked, covered in tattoos, standing with money. What more does a movie need?
