The body count of the Peruvian bus crash has now reached at least 33. The bus plunged into a river near the Peruvian city of Trujillo on Friday / early Saturday morning.
According to, the bus, belonging to Peruvian company "Transportes Horna", plunged 180 metres into a ravine.
Highway police said the accident happened when the bus driver was attempting to overtake another vehicle.
CNN reports that there were 43 seated passengers, but many more were standing and the death toll might rise. Among the dead were many doctors and nurses.
Al Jazeera reports authorities blame the region's treacherous, winding roads, the poor condition of the vehicle, and driver error for the accident.
