The social networking site Twitter could be about to launch a music site. Twitter has been reported as buying the music discovery site We Are Hunted.
According to the popular music site We Are Hunted a deal has been made to sell the site to Twitter. In a statement the company said:"While we are shutting down wearehunted.com, we will continue to create services that will delight you, as part of the Twitter team". It also added "there's no question that Twitter and music go well together".
We Are Hunted was an Australian digital media start-up company, established in 2009.
In addition, a new hashtag #music is featured on the newly-launched music.twitter.com.
According to the BBC, it is likely that then new service will be based around an app that offers music choice recommendations (perhaps in a similar way to iTunes?).
Digital Trends expands on this further, noting: "the app will offer users personalized music recommendations through four main tabs – ‘suggested’ recommends artists and tracks based on your follower graph; ‘#NowPlaying’ shows links to songs tweeted by those you follow who tweet using the #NowPlaying hashtag; ‘popular’ reveals tracks that are trending; and ‘emerging’ gives information on up-and-coming artists."
Tech Cruch sees this latest move by Twitter as part of the micro-blogging site's consolidation across various genres: "This is a sign that Twitter is becoming a hub for all media: news, photos, videos and now music. All of the pieces are falling into place, and the platform is strong enough to handle all of it now, probably for the first time."
