article imagePayments industry honors most influential female leaders

By Michael Essany     Apr 12, 2013 in Business
This week, the editors of PaymentsSource, Bank Technology News and, ISO and Agent published their first annual list of the "20 Most Influential Women in Payments."
Although the payments industry has long been a male-dominated arena, times have changed. And today, some of the most powerful and innovative leaders in the industry are women.
The impact of these female leaders in the payments business is evident in the fact that the honorees represent a wide range of payments constituencies, including issuing banks, payments networks, merchant acquirers, and payments technology companies, among others.
Among the honorees is Cynergy Data CEO Kim Fitzsimmons, the first woman CEO of a major acquiring company, current president of the Electronic Transactions Association, past president of Women Networking in Electronic Transactions, and recipient of the Midwest Acquirers Association Lifetime Achievement Award.
Fitzsimmons, however, not only represents one of the strongest female leaders in payments today, her company - a leading payment services provider - is particularly reflective of the expanded role of women in key leadership positions in payments. In fact, three of the top four positions within Cynergy Data are occupied by women. Beyond Fitzsimmons, Sheila G. Corvino serves as Chief Legal Officer and Corporate Secretary of Cynergy Data, and Nancy J. Disman is Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operating Officer of Pipeline Cynergy Holdings.
