On April 10, gospel music award-winning sensation Sandi Patty chatted via telephone with Digital Journal. In 2004, Sandi was inducted into the prestigious Gospel Music Association Hall of Fame.
The Grammy-winning songstress is expected to play at Carnegie Hall in New York City on April 11, where she will share the stage with Dino Kartsonakis and Larnelle Harris. “We are very excited about that show. I am a happy girl any time that I get the chance to be with Larnelle and Dino and to play with a live orchestra,” she said. “We are going to do some sets together and some sets individually. This is Dino’s party that he invited us all to and we are happy about that. I am sure that Dino has a few surprises that we don’t even know about that.”
She revealed that two of the songs that she will be playing at tomorrow’s show include “More Than Wonderful” and “I’ve Just Seen Jesus,” both of which are two of her personal favorites.
Last year, Sandi played the leading role in the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra’s concert stage version of the Broadway musical “Hello, Dolly!” which was well-received by fans and critics alike. “I had the best time. I loved it,” she exclaimed. “The people there have been so good to me. Getting the chance to work with them over the last twenty years has been fabulous. They always knew that one of my dreams was to do something on Broadway and they created a concert version of ‘Hello Dolly’ and I got to play Dolly and it was wonderful.”
Sandi spoke highly about her pastor, Jim Lyon. “He is such a dear friend and such an eloquent speaker. I really love him so much,” she said.
She noted that she is working on a new record this year. “I am really looking forward to that. I love all kinds of music from Broadway music to hymns of the church, so this next project will consist of some of my favorite hymns and worship songs and that gives me a big amount of joy,” Sandi shared.
Sandi complimented such Christian musicians as Benjamin Utecht and Matthew West. “I love Benjamin and I consider him as one of my sons. I love Matthew West since he is a wonderful artist and a great songwriter and I would love to write some songs with him sometime,” she said. “I would love to sing with Andrea Bocelli. That would be a really cool thing,” she concluded.
