Actor Tom Hanks, a two-time Academy Award winner, has been nominated for a Webby Award. He`s nominated in the Online Film & Video (Drama) category for an internet series he made for Yahoo called `Electric City.`
`Electric City` is a post-apolitical sci-fi animated web series, 20 episodes of a total of about 90 minutes; Hanks created and produced `Electric City` for Yahoo and it was released in July of 2012. Hanks is a voice in the series along with Jeanne Tripplehorn, Holland Taylor and Jason Antoon and Ginnifer Goodwin.

The Webby Awards, as noted on their website, honor "excellence on the Internet" and were "established in 1996 during the Web's infancy (and are) presented by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences (IADAS)."
There are an ever-increasing number of web series being produced on the 'net, some with major players like Hanks and Yahoo, others with lesser-known figures, like Vancouver comedian and actor Jason Bryden's ' six episode series Sports Talk Radio'.
Others up for an award at the 17th Webbys include Jerry Seinfeld, Charlize Theron, Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber and Conan O'Brien. The awards will be held May 21 in New York, with the host of the show and venue to be announced April 16. Winners get but 5 words for acceptance speeches, to be broadcast the following day on their website, linked above.
