Run For Love 1000 on their way to Dubrovnik

By Mark Harradine     Apr 8, 2013 in Lifestyle
London - Thirty-nine marathons in 33 days. That's exactly what three young Londoners are currently planning. The trio are running from Odessa in Ukraine to Dubrovnik in Croatia to raise money and awareness for child trafficking.
During their 1,000 mile run Guy Hacking, Tom Stancliffe and Rob Martineau will cross nine countries in Eastern Europe.
The run started on the 31st of March in Odessa and will finish in Dubrovnik on the 3rd of May. “So much preparation has gone into the project, we’re now just really excited to get on the road and to start running. It’s going to be a great adventure for us and although we’re all a little nervous about the challenge, we’ve trained hard and we’re eager to hit the road,” commented Martineau.
The project, named Run For Love 1000, aims to raise £150,000 for the charity Love146, a charity that works against child trafficking and exploitation. 1.2 million children are sold into exploitation each year. The Londoners will be carrying all their equipment on their backs and mainly sleeping in tents on the way. The money Rob, Tom and Guy raise will be used to enable Love146 to build a home in the UK that provides specialist aftercare to children who are victims of human trafficking. Guy Hacking, 30, commented “It’s tragic to think of children living in slavery. Love146 are determined to end child trafficking. It’s such an important cause and it’s great to be able to support the charity’s work. The run will be tough, but the cause will drive us on.”
There will also be a special Dubrovnik Stage on the 4th of May where over 200 runners will join the event and help to raise even more money. This stage has been specially organised in Cavtat, near Dubrovnik, and runners from all over the world are expected to attend.
