According to
USA Today, Middlebrooks ended up hitting two home runs off of R.A. Dickey, NL CY Young Award winner, in the first inning. He then got another home run off of David Bush with a leadoff longball to the left in the seventh inning. This is the first three homer game of his career.
According to
ESPN, Mike Napoli also was able to add a two-run shot, and Daniel Nava, as well as Jacoby Elisbury, went deep as the team connected six home runs, setting season highs for runs and hits (15). This comes just a day after getting two hits in a game that they loss.
According to
Boston Globe, Middlebrooks is now the first player in the majors who have hit three home runs in one game this season. He is also the first player on the Red Sox to do it since Dustin Pedroia during a game with the Rockies back in 2010.
Middlebrooks has also accumlated 14-plus total bases in just one game, which means that he is just one of six players to do it in the history of the Red Sox.
