article imageBritish Telecom joins The Cloud

By Alexander Baron     Apr 4, 2013 in Internet
British Telecom is the largest Internet Service Provider in the UK, and offers its subscribers an on-line backup service known as the Digital Vault. This will shortly be replaced by The Cloud.
Cloud computing has been with us for a while now, but currently British Telecom offers on-line storage by something called the Digital Vault. Recently it sent its subscribers a message to the effect that the Digital Vault will be replaced by BT Cloud. Users have until May 31 to download any files from the former, after which they will be lost. BT Cloud offers every user 2Gb of space free, with auto-backup accessible from anywhere, and the option to purchase up to 500Gb of space, a far cry from the times when typically an ISP would offer its subscribers 5 or perhaps 25Mb of webspace!
British Telecom may be the biggest ISP in the UK, but a recent survey by ISPreview indicates that small may be beautiful. Check out this list of the top ten rated. Only one of these is in the top ten by subscriber base.
