article imageShakespeare coming to Dubrovnik

By Mark Harradine     Apr 3, 2013 in Entertainment
Dubrovnik - Shakespeare is coming to Dubrovnik, Croatia this spring with two new plays produced by the Dubrovnik Shakespeare Festival.
Shakespeare’s Kings and Clowns and The Return of Sherlock Holmes will be presented from the 18th to the 20th of April in the Art Radionica Lazareti complex just a stones throw from the Old City of Dubrovnik.
Both performances will feature the acting troupe Performance Exchange from London led by Daniel Foley. “We are excited to be coming to Dubrovnik with these two innovative performances” commented Foley. Adding that the Shakespeare’s Kings and Clowns play was an audience participation performance, “it’s Shakespeare but with a twist.”
The Dubrovnik shows come one month after DSF's performance of the play Memory in Berlin. That play was a co-production together with the famed English Theatre Berlin and was well received by the Berlin theatre going public. Michael Lederer, the artistic director of the Dubrovnik Shakespeare Festival, commented that “Dubrovnik Shakespeare Festival continues to seek funding to mount a full-scale Festival in Dubrovnik. But we are not waiting. We are already rich in enthusiasm and talent, and we have enough financial resources so that whether in Berlin or in Dubrovnik or in London, DSF is continuing to promote theatre as an integral part of the most beautiful town in the world.”
Dubrovnik Shakespeare Festival has also announced that it will stage a new modern English translation of The Miser by Dubrovnik’s Marin Drzic in London later this year. “Our goal is to bring the world to Dubrovnik, and Dubrovnik to the world” concluded Lederer.
