By Richard Milnes     Apr 2, 2013 in Odd News
Sydney - On 2 April the Sydney Opera House was lit up in blue to mark the sixth annual United Nations World Autism Awareness Day.
At just after 8pm the western sails of the Sydney Opera House were lit up blue at a cost of $40,000 to mark World Autism Awareness Day.
The Light It Up Blue 2013 webpage indicates that The Empire State Building, Pyramids and other famous landmarks around the world will also turn blue to highlight the cause of autism.
The Autism Speaks website says
Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and autism are both general terms for a group of complex disorders of brain development. These disorders are characterized, in varying degrees, by difficulties in social interaction, verbal and nonverbal communication and repetitive behaviors.
