article imageOp-Ed: Academy of Country Music awards predictions — Single of the Year

By Markos Papadatos     Apr 1, 2013 in Entertainment
The 2013 Academy of Country Music (ACM) awards' category for "Single Record of the Year" consists of five songs by some of country music's biggest musical acts. The award goes to the artists, producers, as well as the record company.
These songs include the Eli Young Band's "Even If It Breaks Your Heart," Miranda Lambert's "Over You," Little Big Town's "Pontoon," Eric Church's "Springsteen," and Hunter Hayes' "Wanted."
All of these songs peaked at the top of the Billboard Hot Country Songs Charts in 2012 and Eric Church's "Springsteen" and Little Big Town's "Pontoon" spent two weeks at the No. 1 position.
With the exception of "Even If It Breaks Your Heart," the only lightweight nominee, the remaining four songs are all strong contenders for the win. Eric Church's "Springsteen" was Mediabase's "Most Played Song of the Year," Hunter Hayes garnered a Grammy nomination for "Best Country Solo Performance for "Wanted," Little Big Town's "Pontoon" was named "Single of the Year" at last year's Country Music Association (CMA) awards, meanwhile Miranda's "Over You" was named "Song of the Year" at the CMA awards, all of which are impressive honors.
It will most likely come down to "Over You" and "Pontoon," but we should not rule out Eric Church or Hunter Hayes' songs, since they can easily emerge as the dark horses and either could pull off a win.
Tune in on April 7 on CBS, to find out which of these five nominees will take home the award for "Single Record of the Year" at this year's Academy of Country Music (ACM) awards.
