According to Toronto Police
the accused conducted a medical exam on a girl during which he allegedly sexually assaulted her in February 2013.
Constable Tony Vella said during a phone interview that the girl, who Vella confirmed is a teenager, came forward to the police
in early March.
Dr. Arturo Sanchez, 78, of Toronto, was charged Thursday for sexual assault, sexual exploitation and sexual interference.
The accused has a doctor's office at 474 College Street, suite 403.
Police believe there may be other victims.
"Dr. Sanchez is an independent doctor with his own practice," Constable Vella said, "He was not known to Toronto Police prior to this incident."
Vella explained the charges of sexual exploitation and sexual interference both deal with "sexual abuse of a child, exploitation is an offense by someone who is a trusted person of authority and interference is when a person touches directly or indirectly a part of the body for a sexual purpose."
Dr. Sanchez has been released until his first court appearance on May 9, 2013.
Dr. Sanchez's patients have taken to the Internet to say that he is an excellent doctor. He has had a practice in Toronto for over three decades. On the site RateMDs.com
his rating is 4.5 out of five. While most of the comments are positive about Sanchez one person stated that they felt uncomfortable with him.
