article imageParents force their teen to hold sign as punishment

By Owen Weldon     Mar 21, 2013 in Odd News
Crestview - Gentry and Renee Nickell of Crestview, Florida, decided to punish their 13-year-old daughter by making her hold a sign at a busy intersection.
According to Yahoo, the sign the girl was holding detailed what she did wrong. She stood at the intersection for about 90 minutes.
According to UPI, the incident took place on Saturday, and the sign that the girl was holding read: "I'm a Self-entitled teenager w/no Respect for authority. I'm also super smart, yet I have 3 'D's' because I DON'T CARE."
According to Opposing Views, the Nickells were surprised when motorists started to snap photos, as well as taking videos of the incident. The photos and video eventually found their way onto Facebook. One motorist even called the cops, who were told that the girl was not in any danger.
Renee Nickell said that she and her husband just reached a point where they did not know what else they could do to stop their daughter from being what they describe as disrespectful.
The Nickells said that their daughter started to become more and more disrespectful since the end of 2011, when her uncle was killed in Afghanistan.
Throughout the entire duration of the punishment, Gentry was present. He said that at the end of her punishment, she gave him a hug and told him that she was sorry.
The Nickells say that the teen's behavior has since improved.
