article imageReview: Kacey Musgraves shines on new album 'Same Trailer Different Park'

By Markos Papadatos     Mar 19, 2013 in Entertainment
On March 19, 2013, country singer Kacey Musgraves released her newest studio album “Same Trailer Different Park” via her record label, Mercury Nashville.
She co-wrote every song on the album. It opens with the soothing “Silver Lining” and it is followed by “My House,” as well as her latest single, the catchy “Merry Go Round,” which is one of the greatest songs (by a female vocalist) that is played on mainstream country radio.
“Dandelion” has a haunting vibe to it and “Blowin’ Smoke” has a rock edge to it, which is reminiscent to a quintessential Sheryl Crow vocal.
“I Miss You” is a soaring ballad and “Step Off” is a breath of fresh air.
Other noteworthy tracks on the CD include the mellifluous “Keep It To Yourself” and “Back On The Map.”
My personal favorite tune from the CD is “Follow Your Allow,” which has the potential to become a chart-topping hit for Kacey on the Billboard Hot Country Airplay Charts.
Her 12-track album closes with “It Is What It Is,” where Kacey leaves her listeners yearning for more music.
The Verdict
In summation, Kacey Musgraves’ “Same Trailer Different Park” is a stellar album that garners an A+ rating. It showcases her vulnerability as an artist and she really pours her heart out for her fans. She stays true to her country roots and this album is powerful both melodically and lyrically. Her vocals are captivating and angelic and Kacey’s songwriting is sincere, warm and authentic. If you are a fan of such songstresses as Jewel, Miranda Lambert, Taylor Swift, Sheryl Crow, Tristan Prettyman and Lee Ann Womack, this album is right for you (since Kacey embodies all of the great qualities of these aforementioned female vocalists).
It definitely deserves more than just a passing glace. Do not be surprised if you see this record in the lineup for “Best Country Album” in next year’s Grammy awards ceremony, since this musician is going places.
