Mississauga - The sweet smell of success poured out of The Social Cupcake's ovens,on the bake shop's first anniversary. Owners Jennifer Waring and Dina Sahlas hosted an event to mark the special occasion, reflecting on the year passed with pride and excitement.
"It's been an adventure, but it's also been so much fun," said Waring. "It's pretty cool to work with your best friend everyday," said Waring.
The idea for the business started as a labour of love, initially, since the two life-long friends said they always enjoyed baking, but had no formal training. Nevertheless, The Social Cupcake serves up a multitude of cupcake flavours, baked daily, from scratch.
Rainbow vanilla, cookies and cream, raspberry snowball, and chocolate salted caramel are just some examples of regular goodies customers may help themselves to. All products, however, are also nut free. Waring and Sahlas also pride themselves on using the finest, organic ingredients. Special orders are also accepted for custom made cakes, baked on site.
Eventually, Waring and Sahlas explained they just found themselves in the right place and time to join forces and open the store.
"We'd always baked on our own and Dina actually ran an at home business, so it was an obvious choice," said Waring.
Situated in Port Credit, the shop is located just steps away from Mississauga's lake shore. Both owners are eagerly looking forward to what the next year for The Social Cupcake holds in store. Some future plans include expanding product to include more older fashioned cakes, as well as introducing some new surprises, which Waring said she could not reveal, but promises it will be a sugary sweet surprise.
