A must-see Mani attraction is the ancient market town of Aeropoli, named after the Greek god of war, Ares. Steeped in history, the town was the birthplace of the Greek war of Independence on March 17, 1821.
Over the course of the last two years the ancient buidlings of Aeropoli have gradually been lovingly restored, revitalizing the old town which is famous for the role it played in throwing off the centuries old dominance of the Ottoman empire.
Old stone buildings nestle in the shadow of the Mavromichalis Tower.
