Rennes - One of France's best known lawyers has been found dead, following an apparent suicide on his private island in Brittany.
According to the local prosecutor's office Olivier Metzner, who represented former French politician Dominique de Villepin as well as Continental Airlines following the 2000 Concorde crash, has been found dead in an apparent suicide.
Olivier Metzner, who was 63-years-old was found floating off the coast of an island he owned in Brittany's Bay of Morbihan. Bloomberg reported that Metzner is reported to have left a note according to a spokesman for the prosecutor's office.
In 2010 Metzner was unsuccessful in defending rogue trader Jérôme Kerviel, who was convicted of abuse of confidence and illegal access to computers. Kerviel was sentence to three years in prison after his appeal was denied, he was released this year.
The cigar aficionado was renowned for his deep understanding of complex cases and was a much sought after attorney by many French corporations.
Metzner's law firm did not return any calls from the press.
