The theft of genitals are becoming relatively common across West Africa, as well as Central Africa, according to scholars.
Academics observing reports of the crime have deemed it, in the past, as an urban phenomenon, according to Daily Mail. This is why a U.S. anthropologist was intrigued when she arrived in Tiringoulou, which is in the Central African Republic, where there were a couple of villagers who claimed that they were victims of genital theft.
According to Herald Sun, in the past, there have been instances reported in places such as Lagos, Cameroon, and Nigeria. Louisa Lombard, who is a postdoctoral fellow in geography, said that villagers told her of a traveler who removed the penises of two men, with just a handshake.
According to Newser, one villager, a tea vendor, said he was attacked by a stranger who just grabbed his hand. He said that he felt an electric tingling throughout his body and then his penis immediately shrunk to a very small size.
The second victim said that he lost his genitals in the fray when yells started to erupt from the crowd.
Lombard said that rebels who govern the village said they found the alleged penis thief and gunned him down when he escaped from a holding cell.
