Austin - It's official! Music legend Prince is set to take the stage at Samsung's South By Southwest music conference on Saturday.
The singer and musician is booked to make his first-ever appearance at the annual Austin festival's closing party on March 16, according to Spin.
"Having Prince in Austin at his first SXSW show will truly be a one night only experience that our Samsung Galaxy owners and friends will remember for years to come," Todd Pendleton, Samsung's chief marketing officer, told Mashable .
"Prince is a legend and true creative and musical genius who has been innovating and pushing the boundaries of music for over 35 years," Pendleton added. "Prince’s live shows are always phenomenal and I’m sure we’ll be in for some fun surprises on Saturday night."
According to HitFix, the venue is reportedly remodeling a stage specifically for The Artist and his 22-piece band.
Local Latin funkers Grupo Fantasma have, in the past, done stints as the Purple One’s backing band, but guitarist Adrien Quesada confirms that they won’t be taking part in this concert, the Austin chronicle writes.
He would be the latest major act to hop onto SXSW's lineup at the last minute, following Dave Grohl's Sound City Players, Justin Timberlake, and the Stooges.
South By Southwest's music showcase kicks off tomorrow (March 12) and runs through March 17.
