article imageGolden Dawn video: 'We are ready to open ovens' for illegals

By Katerina Nikolas     Mar 6, 2013 in World
Athens - A Greek film-student studying in London spent a month last summer filming Greece's ultra-nationalist party Golden Dawn (Chrysi Avgi). Footage depicting some members of the party as racist, anti-Semitic and violent has been aired on UK television.
The film footage of Golden Dawn by Konstantinos Georgousis can be seen on Channel 4 News, along with an interview by Jon Snow with the film-maker.
The film was shot in the run-up to last summer's elections. It primarily depicts the views of potential Golden Dawn parliamentary candidate Alexander Plomari, who Proto Thema reported failed to win a seat in the elections.
Plomari expressed shocking opinions as he was filmed. He described illegal immigrants as "parasites that drink our water, eat our food and breathe our Greek air." He then went on to laughingly declare "We are ready to open the ovens! We will turn them into soap."
Writing of his experience filming Golden Dawn, Georgousis said: "I walked through every nook and cranny in the centre of Athens to find these Golden Dawn members who appear in my film, the Cleaners. I was terrified that these members were proud to express their extreme ideas during campaigning openly in public."
Golden Dawn have responded to the film by stating on their website that Plomari, a former CA candidate, was filmed secretly for hours and asked ridiculous questions such as "Golden Dawn kills migrants and leftists?"
