The FBI's file on Whitney Houston includes several threats made by infatuated fans and an extortion attempt for a quarter of a million dollars made by someone Houston considered a friend.
The Federal Bureau of Investigations has released its file on Whitney Houston containing several FBI investigations involving Houston during the height of her career.
Many details including names have been redacted from the 128 page vault file released last week. The documents do however reveal that the FBI investigated several threats by obsessed fans and an alleged extortion attempt against the legendary recording artist between 1988 and 1999.

The FBI looked into a $250,000 extortion attempt shortly after Whitney Houston’s marriage to singer Bobby Brown in 1992. The harasser threatened to make Houston’s private life public information - unless Houston paid. Houston told the FBI that the extortionist was someone she considered a friend, according to an FBI interview.
Some of the threats Houston received were from infatuated fans, some making outlandish claims. One fan wrote love stating that he "might hurt someone with some crazy idea." Another fan told the FBI in an interview that he had helped Nelson Mandela win the elections in South Africa, had purchased Brazil for $66 billion, and was the “President of Europe.”
Whitney Houston is best known for her leading role in the motion picture The Bodyguard opposite Kevin Costner and her seemingly effortless ability to belt soulful music including her rendition of the United States’ National Anthem.
Whitney Houston was found dead in the bathtub of her Beverly Hills hotel suite last year. She was 48. Autopsy results revealed that she had died of accidental drowning in the bathtub due to the "effects of heart disease and cocaine use as reported by the Digital Journal.
