article imageMichael Moore: US faces tyranny, but not through gun control

By Alex Allen     Mar 3, 2013 in Politics
Michael Moore has not been shy about his anti-gun stance; but he does believe America is headed down the path to tyranny.
In a February interview with We Are Change's Sierra Adamson, popular filmmaker and activist Michael Moore was questioned on his beliefs regarding the rise of tyranny in America. When asked if he thought the United States was facing a tyrannical government, Moore responded with the following statement: "What we're seeing are the early baby-steps that all tyrannical governments and institutions have faced at the very beginning." He went on to say that tyranny starts out not looking like tyranny and the tyrannical laws that are passed seem to have reason.
Adamson proceeded to question Moore about the correlation between gun control proposals and the rise of tyranny. Moore replied that he does not see the correlation because he "think(s) that gun control is a good idea." He also explained that he believes anyone who uses a gun, just like with a car, should have to be registered and should have to prove that they know how to use it.
Moore was also confronted by We Are Change on an old report about one of his security guards being caught with a gun, despite his stance on guns. He said the bodyguard was actually working for Arnold Schwarzenegger and he doesn't know how the report surfaced the way it did.
Michael Moore has been a very outspoken proponent of gun control, calling for a full ban of semiautomatic weapons. He also made the controversial statement that "Americans own guns because too many white people are afraid of black people."
