article imageRapper Joey Bada$$ talks Ecko creative director job

By Layne Weiss     Mar 2, 2013 in Entertainment
It's been quite a year for young rapper Joey Bada$$. In October, 2012, he spit a verse in the "Man With The Iron Fists Cypher," virtually unheard of. Then he rapped about joining Roc Nation. Now, barely 18, he's the creative director of Ecko Unlimited.
The Brooklyn rapper ended 2012 on a sad note. He lost his friend and collaborator, Capitol Steez, on Christmas Day.
2013 has been crazy, but in a good way. Joey thinks about his lost friend everyday, but he's rapped with A$AP Rocky on the track "1 Train" about joining Jay-Z's label Roc Nation, though in the end he decided remaning independent was the best thing thing for him, HipHopDX reports. He turned 18-years-old, and while most people are thinking about graduating high school and prom and what college they're going to go to, Joey is thinking about his new job as creative director at Ecko.
Following in the footsteps of guys like Pharrell Williams and now Big Sean, the young rapper is mixing HipHop and fashion. While Ecko isn't Joey's vision the way Ice Cream and BBC was Pharrell's or Aura Gold was Big Sean's, who's to say what this will mean for his future? Will he create his own clothing line one day? He's only 18, and he was appointed creative director of a popular clothing line by the company's founder Marc Ecko, XXL Mag reports.
"I don't meet with Marc too often," Joey explained. "We've talked briefly. Marc is a very busy man. Marc is very focused. Whenever he have a talk, it puts my mind on like a higher plateau. He inspires me a lot and I just do some next sh**," Joey explained in an interview about his new Pro Era line.
