KANDAHAR (voa) - U.S. military officials are acknowledging a U.S. bombing raid in southern Afghanistan late Sunday may have caused civilian casualties.
They say Air Force B-52 and AC-130 aircraft struck several ground targets in Uruzgan province north of Kandahar, in Uruzgan province, including sites from which anti-aircraft artillery was fired.
At Bagram air base north of Kabul, U.S. military spokesman Colonel Roger King said Monday he understood there were some casualties, but he does not know how many or how they occurred. He said at least four people who were injured have been treated by U.S. forces.
U.S. officials will not confirm local news reports that a bomb struck a wedding party where some of the participants may have been firing guns in the air. Afghan reports say between 40 and 100 people at a wedding party may have been killed.
The U.S. military and the Afghan government are investigating.
