Kunming - A video showing Yan Linkum, a Chinese Communist official, losing his temper and trashing an airport boarding gate in rage after missing his flight has emerged online
Aiport surveillance cameras captured Mr Yan and his wife trying to board a plane at Changshui International Airport. But officials told them they had missed the plane. Mr Yan loses his temper, pushes angrily at the doors and then waves a finger threateningly at an airport employee. His anger boils over and he begins ripping out computers on the steward's desk and smashing them on the ground while the steward scrambles for safety.
Watch as the privileged official trashes the steward's desk, smashing the airport's computer equipment in Bruce Banner-style rage. He smashes the first terminal and then another, then he starts kicking the desk .
His wife attempts to calm him down as he rips another computer from the desk and throws it on the ground.
A large crowd, including helpless security guards, soon gather to witness the bizarre display of arrogant privilege by the communist party official. Yan gives everyone a show they would never forget: He snatches up a nearby sign and tries to smash the glass door with it.
He finally calms down when airport officials arrive at the scene, but he continues speaking angrily.
The video went viral on Chinese microblogs and netizens soon identified angry man in the video as a local party official, a mining company deputy chairman and member of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) in Qujing (Shizong), Yunnan. The Shangaist reports that local media contacted Yunnan Party officials who confirmed that the man in the surveillance video was Yan.
Yan and his wife reportedly went for breakfast after purchasing flight tickets and missed the boarding announcement.
The Guardian reports that the mining company has suspended him. Business Insider reports the incident is being investigated.
According to Shanghai Daily, Yan has expressed remorse. He reportedly said: "My irrational actions and rudeness have caused some losses to the airport as well as bad effects to the public, so I sincerely apologize to the airport and public."
The Guardian reports that the new Chinese president Xi Jinping, has launched a crackdown on official corruption that has exposed the extent of abuse of privilege among Chinese officials.
Recently, an official in Shaanxi province Yang Dacai, was expelled from the party for "suspected crimes." He rose to notoriety after he was photographed with a smirk on his face at the scene of a road accident in which 36 people lost their lives. Photographs soon appeared online showing him wearing luxury watches that many believed he could not possibly afford on his salary as a public servant
