Houston - Residents in one Houston, Texas neighborhood were awaken by loud crashes and an unbelievable sight early Sunday morning, finding a car stuck upside down in the roof of a home.
The bizarre incident occurred around 2:15 a.m. Sunday when a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed missed a curve in the roadway, sending it through a field. As the car traveled through the field, it hit an embankment, sending the vehicle airborne. The vehicle struck one home, somersaulted off that house and landed inverted onto the roof of a neighboring home.
Susan Mistini, owner of the home where the vehicle landed, heard a loud crashing sound and her home security system alarm and thought someone was trying break into her home. She ran outside when she smelled gas and asked a neighbor what was going on. She told WCSH6:
"I said, 'What's going on?' And he said, 'Hurry up, there's a car in your roof.'"
Neighbors could not believe their eyes when they saw the car sticking out of the roof, with Justin Hooper saying:
"It's just outrageous. I've seen bad accidents here, but this is really the worst one I've ever seen."
The driver was transported to a local hospital for examination, however his sister told WCSH he received only a few minor cuts and scratches.
Keith McBride, operator of the crane used to remove the vehicle, told ABC13:
"I mean, this guy was bouncing off houses. He ended up on a roof. I don't know how you walk out."
Investigators believe the driver was traveling at between 80-85 mph when the accident occurred. The are looking into whether alcohol played a role in the accident as well. No charges have been filed against the driver at this time.
