article imageInterview: David Phelps chats about 'Classic' CD and his touring Special

On Feb. 21, 2013, singing sensation David Phelps chatted via telephone with Digital Journal. The classical crossover artist opens up about his “Classic” CD, as well as his touring.
On the song selection process for his newest record, David stated, “We worked on the song choices for about one year. We wanted it to consist of songs that people were familiar with. It encompassed everything from traditional pop to opera to Broadway to a couple of sacred songs. I have fallen in love with some of these songs over the years.”
One of the vocals that he has covered on his latest album is Luciano Pavarotti’s signature tune “Nessun Dorma.” “I knew that I wanted to do it a little bit differently. This song has been a career-changer for me. I wanted to do it as a love song rather than an opera and I have been able to communicate with audiences at that level,” he remarked.
Presently, David is out on the road performing concerts throughout the United States and in the summer, he is expected to tour Europe. “I have an annual Christmas tour that I do and now I am going to different venues to support the ‘Classic’ CD. I will be going overseas in the summer, where I will do ten or twelve dates over there,” he said. “It’s an amazing feeling to step on stage and to see people sing along with my songs and for them to like my music. We have a very good response in Europe.”
He revealed that his vocal range spans anywhere from 3 to 3.5 octaves.
David noted that there are many great female vocalists in contemporary music. “I have always been a fan of Celine Dion. One of my favorite sopranos is Sarah Brightman and I would love to work with her. Both of these ladies are phenomenal talents,” he shared.
He concluded by thanking all of his dedicated fans for always being there for him. “I would not be out here doing this if it weren’t for the fans. They are the reason as to why I am able to keep doing this. They are very loyal and I love them for that,” David said.
