“Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” is one of the biggest franchises in the United States spanning across at least two or three generations. If you were born during the late 1970s or early 1980s, you may have come across one of the earliest TMNT series. A few years after 2000 came, there was a new series which was closely associated with the comic book counterpart. Also, there have been three live action movies and one CGI movie.
There was a short-lived live-action series put in the same universe as the "Power Rangers." That series had a female turtle who went by Venus.
Come late spring of 2014, there's a new TMNT movie that's going to come out. It's going to be produced by Michael Bay who's known for directing those live-action “Transformer” movies. The movie's titled "Ninja Turtles
In Bay's version of TMNT, the original origins of the four turtles (Leonardo the Fearless Leader, Michelangelo the Chilled Surfer Dude, Donatello the Scientific Genius, and Raphael the Wisecracker) will be different. They will not be regular turtles exposed to the glowing green liquid known as mutagen; instead, the four turtles will be members of an alien race.
According to what CNN reports
, not many people were thrilled about Bay's direction of where the turtles originated from. In Bay's defense, he's saying to give the story a chance since fans have not read the script. Perhaps those fans may give Bay the benefit of the doubt; but, there's more to this story. It was believed that the professional relationship between Michael Bay and Megan Fox was over due to Tranformers. However, that seemingly became “water under the bridge.”
It is reported that Bay has cast Fox to be part of the production. That's also confirmed on the latest entry
on Michael Bay's website which says “TMNT: We Are Bringing Megan Fox Back Into The Family.”
In the CNN and Crunchyroll reports
, it is unknown what role Fox would play in the movie. There are strong indications that Fox may play the role of April O'Neil who is the main human friend of the turtles. According to a report
by The Atlantic Wire, Fox will be playing the role of April. That comes from the original report from Variety. The Variety article
said that other actresses that the studio met beforehand were Jane Levy, Anna Kendrick, and Elizabeth Olsen.
The Crunchyroll article and the Internet Movie Database (IMDb) show that Johnathan Liebesman will be directing the movie. Also, production of the film begins in April. On a somewhat related note, there's a pornographic actress who uses the name of April O'Neil
and took the name due to her being a fan of the franchise. Apparently from what her tweets
say, April didn't seem thrilled about the notion of this Michael Bay produced version of TMNT let alone Megan Fox getting cast for the movie.
How will this movie turn out? One will have to wait until May 2014 to find out.
