article imageLooking back on Forest Hill Fashion Week Special

By Alexander Baron     Feb 22, 2013 in Lifestyle
Forest Hill - With London Fashion Week on the horizon, who would consider running a similar event in the suburbs? It may have been a brave move, but it paid off for Louise Brooks and her team.
We reported on the run up to Forest Hill Fashion Week earlier this month. It has now been and gone; for those not in the know, it was run by the same people who are attempting to rejuvenate the high street. In South East London, this is the SEE3 team which is led by Louise Brooks. Although it was of necessity a smaller affair than London Fashion Week, there was a big turnout, and the enthusiasm was infectious. Here is an inside view.
AB: How was Forest Hill Fasion Week received?
Louise Brooks: The turnout has been amazing with most traders reporting an increase in takings over the weekend.
AB: What big names turned out?
LB: London Fashion Week kept a lot of famous faces busy but we attracted some big names ourselves including couture designer Katharine Harrison who used to design for Katherine Hamnett, who was also showing at London Fashion Week and Paris Fashion Week.
AB: Why did you hold the event at this particular time?
LB: The remit of SEE3's The Shop Revolution project is to deliver 10 pop up shops and put on a series of events to draw footfall. Based on the retail calendar and the existing identity of the area (growing number of fashion boutiques) it made sense to leverage the buzz around London Fashion Week by staging a celebration of local design and fashion talent to support our latest pop up shop.
AB: Are you going to put on this same event next year?
LB: The event has been incredibly well received by the local community and so we would like to explore the opportunities for it becoming a regular event.
And because fashion is less about words than about image, Louise sent us a few snaps.
