Westbury - On Feb. 17, 2013, RCA Nashville recording artist and country singer Chris Young performed at the NYCB Theatre at Westbury in Long Island, New York. The Joe Bayer Band served as his opening act.
A former Nashville Star winner, Chris commenced his set with “Save Water, Drink Beer” and got the New York crowd up on their feet.
“How are you all doing out here?” he asked the audience. Chris Young praised New York for being such a “fantastic state” and he noted that he was going to be performing his hits, as well as new songs from his forthcoming CD.
He continued with his Grammy-nominated song “Gettin’ You Home” and he played acoustic guitar as the stage was graced in a green backdrop.
“This has been a really great weekend and that is all thanks to you fans,” Chris remarked. “I hope you are enjoying yourselves.”
It was followed with “Lost” and “The Man I Want to Be,” the latter of which he dubbed was his “second No. 1 single and his first gold record.”
“When She’s On” showcased his wide vocal range and he went on to sing his latest single “I Can Take It From There,” which he noted is one of his personal favorite songs to play in his set. He even sang an acapella verse of Conway Twitty’s “I'd Love To Lay You Down.”
Chris paid tribute to the men and women in our military by delivering a solo and acoustic rendition of his poignant tune “The Dashboard,” which was well-received by the crowd. “God bless the military!” Chris exclaimed.
He also covered ZZ Top’s “Sharp Dressed Man” and he went on to introduce the five talented members of his band.
He continued with the fan-favorite “Voices,” as the stage was graced in an orange backdrop, as well as “Neon,” the title cut of his third studio album.
“Thank you for the song and the album,” he said graciously.
Chris performed “She’s Got This Thing About Her” as a collaboration with his keyboard player and it was followed up with “You” as the stage was graced in a green backdrop.
He changed the pace with the up-tempo “Who’s Gonna Take Me Home” and he closed his set with yet another chart-topping hit “Tomorrow.”
Overall, Chris Young's show at Westbury was a great deal of fun, filled with high energy and excitement. He proved that he is one of country's most underrated talents and finest male vocalists.
According to Barbara Goldsmith, country music fan and NYCB Theatre at Westbury attendee, she remarked, “This was the best concert I’ve seen in a long time. Chris’ voice is simply amazing. He had everyone on their feet and dancing the entire time.”
