Country music singer Mindy McCready, 37, died on Sunday from an alleged suicide. The mother of two reportedly shot herself.
Country music star Mindy McCready, 37, is dead. McCready reportedly shot herself on Sunday. The singer's brother confirmed the news to the Daily News.
NBC Dateline reporter Andrea Canning confirmed the news in a tweet. “Just got a call from Mindy McCready's best friend that she shot and killed herself this evening. My heart breaks for her two boys. RIP”
The singer had suffered a string of controversies and tragedies in recent years. In May 2005, McCready's ex-boyfriend was charged with attempted murder for choking her. In September of the same year, McCready overdosed in a hotel room and was sent to rehab.
On March 25, 2006, McCready gave birth to a son, Zander Ryan McCread. On December 17, 2008 McCready was hospitalized for a suicide attempt in which she cut her wrists.
McCready appeared on Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew in 2010. The same year, a sex tape of McCready and an ex-boyfriend was released by Vivid Entertainment.
McCready reportedly shared an intimate relationship with Roger Clemens. McCready told Inside Edition in 2008 that her affair with the older baseball star began when she was a teenager and lasted a decade, ending when Clemens refused to leave his wife and marry her. Clemens, 50, did not confirm or deny the affair, saying "I have made mistakes in my personal life for which I am sorry."
McCready's boyfriend, David Wilson, died on Jan. 13, 2012 of an apparent suicide, although an investigation remains open.
On April 13, 2012, McCready gave birth to their son, Zayne.

Neighbors reportedly called the police after hearing gunshots from the McCready residence.
“She shot herself and the dog,” said a source close to the singer.
