Manchester - Wen Zhou Li, an internationally recognised teacher of the violin, was arrested on rape allegations made by a former student of his at Chethams School of Music in Manchester.
Wen Zhou Li an internationally recognised teacher of the violin was arrested on rape allegations made by a former student of his at Chethams School of Music in Manchester. His arrest comes as a string of revelations emerge after Michael Brewer former Head of Music at Chethams was convicted of indecently assaulting Frances Andrade last week in a Manchester court.
In a fast moving story about twenty new allegations of abuse are now being investigated, so far six teachers past and present have been accused of sex crimes.
Wen Zhou Li was arrested whilst teaching at the RNCM on 14th February and later questioned by Greater Manchester Police. He was subsequently released on bail pending further enquiries which the police hope will be completed by June.
Wen Zhou Li strenuously denies these allegations and has released a statement for the press and media.
"I wish to make it clear that, at this time, no charges have been brought against me. I understand that the law protects the privacy of those who make such allegations but not those who are accused and respect the fact that the police must investigate the allegations made against me, which I strenuously deny. I am very grateful for the enormous support of my family, friends and students globally and hope that the investigation will conclude as quickly as possible."
