article imagePhotos of alleged Photoshopped Iranian fighter jet go viral

By Greta McClain     Feb 16, 2013 in World
Tehran - New photos of Iran's recently unveiled stealth fighter are going viral, with many claiming the photos appear to have been Photoshopped.
Earlier this month Iran claimed they had developed their own stealth fighter jet, dubbed the Qaher-313 fighter jet. Wanting to show off their new technological invention and "prove" they have built a functional stealth fighter, the Iranian government released a new photo of the jet. Khouz News published several photos of the jet in a hanger, however the Iranian government only provided one photo of the plane in flight.
The photo of the jet in operation shows it flying over Mount Damavand. When comparing the Iranian government photo to a stock photo of Damavand, the cloud pattern, sunlight and other details are almost identical.

Although the photo released by Iran has been enhanced and is lighter in color, specific patterns can be seen in both images.

According to a Telegraph report, the angle of photo, along with the reflections of sunlight on the wings of the plane appear extremely similar to photos released earlier this month when the plane was unveiled.
The lighting on the plane in both pictures appear to be identical.

Bloggers in Iran have even begun to claim that the photo is a fake, pointing out the image of the plane in the photo is identical to the one released on February 2nd.
David Cenciotti, a writer for an Aviationist blog, examined the photo and told The Independent:
"[The plane is] nothing more than a large mock-up model made out of plastic, [without] the characteristic rivets and bolts all aircraft, including stealthy ones, feature. The air intakes are extremely small whereas the engine section lacks any kind of nozzle: engine afterburners could melt the entire jet.”
No seams or rivets can be seen on the stealth fighter Iran claims to manufactured.
