By JohnThomas Didymus     Feb 16, 2013 in Lifestyle
Wellston - A 10-year-old pit bull terrier named Baby, rescued a family and its five dogs from a house on fire. Baby earned the right to the title of a hero by performing the act not just once, but twice.
According to The Huffington Post, Rhonda Westenberger and her sister Evelyn, were sleeping in their home in Wellston, Oklahoma when the house caught fire and was filled with smoke and flames. Their pitbull named Baby, began barking and jumping on Evelyn on her bed until she woke up. KOCO.com reports Westernberger said they had just seconds to escape from the burning house.
Westenberger said: "There were flames shooting down the hallway. If Baby hadn't woken Evelyn up, I don't think either one of us would have come out of it."
The sisters ran out of the house, but after they were out and safe they realized that five dogs were still trapped inside the house. The dogs were too scared to try to escape from the burning house. Hero Baby to the rescue, once again.
The dog rushed back into the house and rescued the five dogs.
Charles Land, a member of the family told KOCO.com: "There was one [dog] hiding underneath the bed. Baby actually went in there grabbed it by the neck and dragged it outside."
Tragically, the family lost their home of 17 years to the fire. But Baby's life-saving heroic action continues to cheer them and give hope. The Huffington Post reports Westenberger said: "[Baby has] always come across to us as one of the family and this just proves it. It brings my spirit up a lot to see the dogs. I'm so proud of her. She is my hero. She's the hero for all of us."
