Cadillac - In a recent undercover sting undercover officers posed as patients to stop fraudulent doctors. Dr. Harwell of Cadillac Michigan was charged with five felony counts. It is unclear at this point if his medical license may be revoked.
Michigan law enforcement officials tightened up the leash on doctors who certify patients for medical marijuana in the state of Michigan. The investigation has been ongoing since February and may have been spawned by complaints filed in September to the Licensing and Regulation Division of the Attorney General's Office according to the Traverse City Record Eagle.
After a recent bout of undercover investigations officers state they were able to obtain medical marijuana certifications with no patient to doctor relationship and no proof of medical records. It is reported by Eric L .VanDussen of the Examiner on February 13, 2013 that three different undercover agents entered the doctor office of Dr. Harwell on February 5th and February 12th and all three was able to obtain a certification to smoke medical marijuana within 5-8 minutes after meeting with the doctor.
Dr. Harwell is a well known doctor in Central Michigan. He holds several clinics through out the Central Michigan area which he certified patients to smoke medical marijuana. It is not known at this time if the patients he has already certified will have their certification investigated or if their cards may in fact be revoked.
